Dr. Fadi Jannan

Board Member

Dr. Fadi is a seasoned expert in disaster risk reduction with over 25 years of experience in leadership within the United Nations system, international organizations, and the private sector. He is a board member of the Management of Resilience and Vulnerability Assessment - MORVA. As the previous Deputy Chief of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction - Regional Office for Arab States (UNDRR), Dr. Fadi led the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in Arab countries. Building on his expertise in disaster risk reduction, Dr. Fadi was able to contribute to raising $10 million in funding during his tenure at UNDRR. He organized high-level regional conferences that shaped risk governance policies across the Arab region, including the regional platforms for disaster risk reduction held in several Arab countries since 2014. He has also organized the Arab Partnership meetings for Disaster Risk Reduction twice a year since 2018. He has also established stakeholder groups for disaster risk reduction, such as the Arab Civil Society Group for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Arab Science and Technology Advisory Group for DRR, the Arab Gender and Women Empowerment Group for DRR, the Arab Children and Youth Group for DRR, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Arab Group for Persons with Disabilities, and the national private sector networks in a few countries.

Dr. Fadi leverages his expertise in disaster risk reduction, crisis management, strategic policy development, and resource mobilization to support cities, governments, regional organizations, and relevant stakeholders toward integrated resilience solutions. He is known for building strategic partnerships with intergovernmental organizations and delivering impactful capacity-building programs. His vision is for MORVA to become a global hub for smart solutions for risk reduction and sustainable resilience, leveraging innovation and bold leadership to protect communities worldwide.

Dr. Meshari Al Faras

Board Member

Dr. Meshari is a distinguished expert in crisis and disaster management with over 20 years of experience in the Kuwait Fire Force. As a board member, he leads innovative solutions to reduce disaster risk across the region.

As the former national focal point for Kuwait with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Dr. Al-Faras implemented the Sendai Framework at the national level and established Kuwait's Scientific Methodology for Crisis Management and National Risk Register. His international experience includes participation with the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination Team during the 2023 Derna, Libya flood disaster, demonstrating his ability to respond to high-risk emergencies. Dr. Al-Faras holds a PhD in Disaster Management from the University of Salford, where his research developed a comprehensive disaster management framework that enhances Kuwait's resilience.

Dr. Khaldoun Afouf

Board Member

Dr. Khaldoun is a legal and disaster risk management expert with over 25 years of experience in the United Nations, international NGOs, and the private sector. He serves as a board member of the Management of Resilience & Vulnerability Assessment  Company (MORVA). His pivotal roles at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), including advising on the National Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction in Syria and establishing disaster management training centers, have cemented his reputation as a leader in crisis coordination and resilience building.

At MORVA Dr. Khaldoun combines his legal expertise with operational expertise to lead innovative disaster risk reduction solutions and capacity building initiatives. Known for formulating risk-informed policies aligned with the Sendai Framework and leading community rehabilitation programs, he ensures MORVA delivers impactful resilience strategies that enable governments, NGOs, and communities to thrive amidst challenges.
